{"id":675,"date":"2018-03-12T15:29:02","date_gmt":"2018-03-12T15:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jpeterstclairdentistry.com\/blog\/?p=675"},"modified":"2020-08-11T18:39:38","modified_gmt":"2020-08-11T18:39:38","slug":"some-interesting-facts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jpeterstclairdentistry.com\/blog\/some-interesting-facts\/","title":{"rendered":"SOME INTERESTING FACTS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is a summary of some facts I found from different surveys done over the last decade.<\/p>\n<p>Are you happy with your smile?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>50% consider the smile the first facial feature they notice<\/li>\n<li>80% are not happy with their smile<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Smile enhanced procedures outnumber eyelid surgeries 5 to 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Americans do not spend enough time on oral home care or professional care.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>32% of Americans cite bad breath as the least attractive trait of their co-workers<\/li>\n<li>38.5 total days an average American spends brushing teeth over lifetime (compared to (1) year of your life spent on hold)<\/li>\n<li>73% of Americans would rather go grocery shopping than floss<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interesting stuff:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is recommended that a toothbrush be kept at least six (6) feet away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush.<\/li>\n<li>A toothpick is the object most often choked on by Americans<\/li>\n<li>Every year, kids in North America spend close to half a billion dollars on chewing gum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The number of cavities in the average mouth is down and people are keeping their teeth longer.\u00a0\u00a0 People, on average, have healthier mouths than even 10 years ago.\u00a0 Specifically:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The decline in tooth decay was greatest among kids but holds across every age group<\/li>\n<li>40% of young people age 6 to 19 have never had cavities.\u00a0 That\u2019s down from 50% a decade ago<\/li>\n<li>The proportion of people over age 60 who lost all their teeth decreased from 33% to 25%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>People who smoke remain three times more likely than non-smokers to lose all their teeth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite the fact that more Americans have dental coverage than ever before, dental visits are on the decline. There are many reasons for this.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Regardless of insurance coverage, adults still report cost as the number one reason for not visiting the dentist<\/li>\n<li>Benefits from insurance carriers are decreasing despite increases in premiums<\/li>\n<li>More employers are choosing PPO (network) plans with limited providers leading to decreased visits<\/li>\n<li>Patients report they are less likely to spend discretionary dollars on dentistry vs. personal technology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And most important to consider:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The average woman smiles about 62 times a day! A man?\u00a0 Only 8!<\/li>\n<li>Kids laugh around 400 times a day.
